Nutritionists stress on eating one salad a day for greater health benefits. In a study of 17,000 adults, conducted by the UCLA School of public health, and published in the Journal Of the American Dietetic Association (JADA), it found that those eating salads and raw vegetables with salad dressing have higher levels of vitamins C, E, and folic acid, all the key nutrients that contribute to a healthy immune system.
Many choose to eat salads as an option instead of a main meal. It’s perfectly fine if you’re on a diet, with all nutrients packed in the salad, its the healthiest option. However, if you’re not on a diet, at times a salad lunch can leave you feeling hungry, because a regular meal has sufficient proteins, fibre, and healthy fats, that are not available in salads.
So combining salads with the main meal seems to make better sense, choosing appetizer salads is the next best option, they are lighter, smaller-portion salads, served before the meals, potato salad for instance, and a variety of others . Another healthy option is eating breakfast salads, nutritionist point out that breakfasts that are high on complex carbs and low in fat improve mood and lower fatigue more effectively, compared to low-carbs, high-fat options such as eggs or hash browns .
